David Cannon's focus is on helping managers positively leverage what they have, and who they are, in order to become more effective leaders. His PhD research at London Business School focused on how people respond to failure and setback comparing business men and women with sports professionals and artists. More recently David has concentrated on personal impact, including the role reputation and image play in effective business leadership.
Although curious about theories of leadership, much of David's work involves coaching managers on practical tactics and techniques they can directly apply to the challenges of their business situation. David has considerable experience using personality measures (NEO, MBTI) as well as other related diagnostics such as FIRO and is intrigued by the role personality plays in an individual's leadership style.
David grew up in Canada where he was a researcher and consultant in organisations in Canada and the US, as well as practising as a trained careers counsellor for 10 years. In 1991 David and his wife moved to the UK in order to complete his PhD and have since made London their home base. He has had the good fortune to coach talented managers from Europe, America, Russia, India, Africa, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore in companies such as Shell International, Unilever, Nestle, Novartis, Société Générale, Cap Gemini and WPP.
A big part of David's life is teaching and coaching the diverse mix of global business men and women who attend London Business School's executive development programmes including: High Performance People Skills, the Senior Executive Programme and Essentials of Leadership. He also contributes to company specific programmes for Roche and Nestle and is presently the Programme Director of the London Business School's Management and Personal Effectiveness Programme designed for Global Banking Markets/Global Transactions - Royal Bank of Scotland. The RBS GBM/GTS course is delivered globally in Europe, Asia and the United States.
