Faster, Faster!
The talk among many of my clients is how their days are getting longer, demands are louder, and the pace just keeps on getting faster.
In the hyper busyness companies find themselves in these days, you have to wonder how well decisions are being made. Do critical issues get the time and reflection needed? Or is a decision just one more thing to check off the to do list? We need to get ourselves off of automatic pilot and manage ourselves in a more intentional way if we want what we do to make a positive impact. Here are three suggestions that may help you see your way clear to doing your best work:
- Accept the fact that everything can't be a priority, and take the steps necessary to ensure your priorities line up with those of your boss and the organization. Then make sure your team knows that these are the most important objectives to accomplish.
- Communicate often and regularly with critical collaborators so you are all on the same page and expectations are clear. Meaning can sometimes be be misunderstood in the translation of an email, and it may be more effective to speak one on one. A short VM may be more effective than jotting off an email with either too much or too little detail.
- When making decisions, take a step back, ask yourself "how will this decision affect the company, our customers, our team, etc", to be sure your decision comes from a well developed perspective. Getting input from others who have a stake in the outcome of your decison may raise your awareness to an issue that may not have been apparant, and ultimately lead to a better result
Worklife demands are increasing at an ever greater rate. It would be easy to get swept up in the intense busyness of it all. Instead, take a step back, evaluate your true priorities and give your time and attention to handling them, at your best.
